Missing and Unidentified Person Program Overview

The University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory located in Fort Worth, Texas. Using grant funding from the National Institute of Justice, UNTCHI provides the following services related to missing and unidentified person investigations:

  • Autosomal STR testing
  • Y STR (Y chromosome) testing
  • Mitochondrial DNA testing

All DNA profiles for missing and unidentified persons are uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) for searching and comparison.

Submitting DNA Samples to UNTCHI

DNA samples related to a missing person or unidentified humans remains case can be submitted to UNTCHI at the mailing address listed below. All samples should be submitted with appropriate UNTCHI submission paperwork, which can be found in UNTCHI collection kits, or can be downloaded below.
