CODIS for Missing Persons: Using DNA to Identify Remains

This course provides a detailed explanation of the Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, and how DNA is used for the identification of human remains. The course covers advanced-level material and is intended for audiences well-versed in basic DNA concepts. It is strongly recommended that participants first complete the Developing a Missing Persons Protocol course for an overview of CODIS and DNA profiles.

  • Three different types of DNA analysis that can be conducted using CODIS software
  • The organization of the CODIS databases
  • Other system requirements that will assist agencies in using DNA more effectively in their investigations
